Another fun and extreme weekend with my team mates and new friends at Mt.Batulao, this is one of the unforgettable hiking experience of my life, the first mountain that gave me an extreme trail experience to summit-
From Manila you can ride a bus from Gil Puyat bus station or in Costal Mall bound to Nasugbo, fare is around 115-120,We arrived at exactly 0300 at Evercrest Golf Club ,from there you can walk for 30-40 minutes to jump- off or ride a tricycle for 100php for 3px, it was a dusty ride to jump off. We hire a guide for 400php (one way) ,600php ( two way /overnight), be wise and negotiate with them . From there we start to walk and fallow the path to Mt.Batulao , the road is dry, covered with thick dust and slippery on inclines, and it’s totally everywhere ,so don’t forget to wear a mask, and sunglass to protect your eyes. The locals are selling bamboo stick for 10php each, I suggest to get one for you , this is really helpful. Along the way you will pass by some houses and stores offering buko juice and halo-halo.
We decided take the new trail, “ easy peasy’’,compare with Mt.Daguldol that I climed before Holly week.
After 1hr and 30 minutes of trekking we finally reached the camp site #8 around 0530, we decided not to continue trekking to summit and do it the next day. After pitching our tent, wash up/fresh’n up, we enjoy taking jump shots with sunset in the background.
The Camp Site
The fun continues to dinner and drinking session with new friends under the moon, meeting new friends, sharing interest and experience is really fun, this is always part of my camping trip .Around 1000, lights off, time to rest for the next day trekking to summit. As early as 4am we are already awake and enjoying coffee while waiting for sunrise.
Before 0600 we started the trekking to summit- the trail to campsite is so easy, but the trail to summit it’s another story, for me the trail to summit is a bit challenging for beginners, we need to be extra careful because the trails are really steep, dusty, has sandy gravel which made it slippery, there are loose stones falling. We need to walk along the edges of the mountain, and walk through its curves by the cliff, from there we need to use both of our hands, knees and toes,”hahaha!”the 4×4—- we really need to crawl, because the wind can blown you down the cliff. The trail has 3 series of rappelling, my favorite part, ( yah I really enjoy doing rappelling) and wall climbing, so better wear gloves. There are parts where the narrow trail is covered with bushes, that make you feel safe along the trail, because you don’t see the cliff side ,and just one misstep, you will find yourself rolling down the hill, so be careful.
And after all those extreme trail adventure, we finally reached the summit. It was all worth it, “ hay ang ganda” – a 360 degrees view of the whole Batangas, rolling green mountains, and fresh air. After 30 minutes of moment, taking selfies, jump shot and groupie, we went back to camp site and pack up. Descending is more easier in some part , but more challenging because again it’s so slippery, that one can easily slide and fall off the cliff. But above all, it was a very wonderful experienced.
